KTM Duke 125 could eat into market share of Hero Impulse

Strong competition is likely to be witnessed in the two-wheeler market of India. This is because two of the legends of the biking fraternity are coming up with innovative promotional strategies for the enhancement in sales of their respective bikes in the Indian market. The companies that are being referred to here are the Hero MotoCorp, which has revitalized itself recently, and Bajaj Auto. Since the time that the Hero Impulse was launched in India by Hero MotoCorp, the market has been strongly speculating a response from Bajaj Auto in the 125cc segment, to which the Impulse belongs. It seems that these rumors are about to bear fruit with the coming of the latest offering from Bajaj Auto in the 125cc segment, the KTM Duke 125, expected to be launched in India in 2012.

Two wheeler companies across the globe have always given high regards to the potential that the Indian market offers in the two-wheeler segment. Most companies across the globe have brought in their latest products to India, as a result of this. Bajaj has in fact made a joint collaboration with the Austrian bike maker, KTM by which the company will be promoting the sales of the KTM Duke 125 bike in India. This would make Bajaj directly compete with the other renowned bike company in India, Hero MotoCorp, whose 125cc bike, the Hero Impulse, is already in the market. Both these bikes, the Duke 125 as well as the Hero Impulse, have been loaded with impressive features and have identified the common target segment, i.e. the youth in the country for their respective sales. A discussion on the specifications that have been provided to the Hero Impulse reveals that it has been provided with a 4-stroke, 149.2cc that can offer maximum power 13Bhp@7500rpm and a peak torque of 13.5Nm@6000rpm. It has been provided with 5 speed gears. It offers a mileage of around 55km/liter.

The KTM Duke 125, widely touted to become the strongest rival of the Hero Impulse in India, has been provided with a 125cc single cylinder 4-stroke, DOHC engine that can offer maximum power in the range of 15Bhp and 17Bhp and achieves a peak torque of 12Nm@8000rpm. The bike is going to deliver a mileage of 35km/liter. The Duke 125 is a lighter bike compared to the Impulse and is also able to deliver more on the power front. However, it could all boil down to the factor of price, which could decide the demand generated for both these bikes. While the Hero Impulse has been priced at Rs.66,800 (as per ex-showroom Delhi), the KTM Duke 125 is being expected to be priced nearer the Rs.1 lakh mark.
The dwell between the two legendary biking companies is definitely going to take an interesting shape and bike lovers across the country will be keenly watching the outcome of the same.
